I have worked through some of these and but dont feel like I understand them enough.. There are ten different fish in the aquarium. How many different arrangements of fish are there? What if 3 of the fish are indistinguishable (the same species) then how many different arrangements are there? What if two of the fish are always together then how many arrangements are there? Now assume there are two equal places the fish can be: part A and part B. The fish can swim between the two parts freely. Assume all the fish are different. Many proteins can fold into their native configuration in vitro. Thus, the necessary information to achieve this folded structure is contained in the sequence alone. This peptide is synthesized as a 146 amino acid chain but the C-terminal end is removed to leave a 111 amino acid final peptide (2).
