choose a specific literary work or event or character
For this assignment, choose a specific literary work or event or character and gather your own unique collection of materials to help yourself (and others) better understand that work, event, or character. All of the portfolio items will directly relate to this one work/event/character that you have selected.
Your portfolio should contain the following elements. Please do not submit multiple pieces individually. Unite all of them in one single document.
a) Identify a work/event/character that is of interest to you. For example, if you would like to learn more about Humbaba from Gilgamesh, then your subject will be “Humbaba from Gilgamesh”. Briefly (in about 150 words) explain why you chose this work/event/character.
b) Provide an image of the work/event/character. Select one that best captures your perception of this item within the scope of your portfolio. Be sure to indicate where you found this source.
c) Find an audio visual resource that references the work/event/character. For example, this can be a movie, a documentary, a news article, a popular magazine article, a teaching resource, a cartoon, or a comic strip. Be sure to indicate where you found this source.
d) Select a scholarly article on your chosen work/character/event. Then write a brief analysis of about 300 words that details how the article was relevant to your understanding of the literary work/event/character. In other words, this paragraph is not a summary but a critical evaluation of the article as it is relevant to you as a student in World Literature 2111 course in Fall 2013. Cite the bibliographic information in MLA format and, if possible, provide a link to the article itself.
e) Identify a modern (20th or 21st century) spinoff that in some way is connected to your selected work/event/character. For example, think about Superman as Gilgamesh. Explain the connection in a paragraph of about 150 words.
f) Compose a list of “Five things you may not know about [your chosen work/event/character].” Go beyond what has been identified and discussed previously this semester. Don’t simply include material that is in the introduction in your anthology or in the course content.
