*SUBJECT: CROSS-CULTURAL COMMUNICATION********** Over the last few years the world has witnessed the emergence of left-wing political forces that oppose the growing influence multinational corporations on national governments. Similarly, nationalistic and xenophobic political discourses have gained popularity among right-wing voters who see immigrants and people from other cultural backgrounds as the source of all their problems. And last but not least, also ISIS has grown in power and influence in the Middle East as a consequence of the dwindling authority of different nation states in the region and their links with Western governments. Using the different topics, authors and theories studied throughout the term, write an essay analysing the causes, current situation, and possible developments of one or more of these reactions against globalisation. And, more particularly, take into consideration (1) the identity, socio-cultural and economic background of the target audience of each these communication strategies e.g. How do they perceive themselves in a globalised world? What is their actual situation? How do they see their relations with the forces of globalisation and other cultures? How is their identity shaped, if not constituted, by these strategies?, and (2) the way in which your own cultural assumptions and biases may affect your diagnosis.
