Part I: Service
Service is often defined as an intangible product provided to customers. This definition could be considered a subjective one because it does not give a clear vision of what service encompasses.
How would you define service in the hospitality industry? Are the terms service and hospitality interchangeable? Why or why not? Justify your answers with appropriate rationale.
As a manager or a leader, how would you make sure that the intangible part of service meets your guests’ expectations each day? Conduct an online research and refer to peer-reviewed articles in order to suggest the best practices in the service industry.
Part II: Roles of a Leader
One of the primary roles of a leader is to motivate others to follow him/her. Some argue that leaders are charged with upholding the mission of an organization and do not have followers. Do you think leaders need to have followers in order for them to lead?
Which leader will be more successful in the new era of management—an authoritarian leader or a Laissez-fair leader? Please provide adequate justification. Further, conduct an online research and cite an example of a leader who has demonstrated the type of leadership you have picked above. Has he or she been successful? If yes, do give an example to justify.
