PPDSA, or Plan-Do-Study-Act, is an iterative, four-stage problem-solving model used for improving a process or carrying out change. The stages are: Plan, Do, Act, Study.
Rapid-cycle improvement is a “quality improvement method that identifies, implements and measures changes made to improve a process or a system.”1 Rapid-cycle improvement implies that changes are made and tested over periods of three or months or less, rather than the standard eight to twelve months. The PDSA cycle is a four-stage rapid-cycle quality improvement strategy.( Healthit.gov,2015).
FOCUS PDCA is an improvement methodology that many organizations use to guide their improvement efforts. It’s simply a formalized process for improvement.( Patricia, 2014). It is easy to use and does not require a lot of technical or technology knowledge.
FADE is the adaption of the original PDSA/PDCA improvement cycle. It consists of four steps: Focus, Analyze, Develop, and Execute. The FADE model of performance improvement is useful for focusing on a problem, analyzing and its causes, developing and implementing a solution, and monitoring success. ( Spath, 2013).
Six Sigma is a methodology used to improve business processes by utilizing statistical analysis rather than guesswork. Instead of the previous four methodologies, six sigma projects use five steps. Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control. ( Unknown, 2015).

Measures that I feel are the most important are Survey of Patients’ Experience and Timely & Effective Care. As a patient you need reassurance that the hospital and its staff know their job and are also capable of doing that job. Also because these are sick patients, they want to feel comfortable and safe where they are, patients wants to feel like the medical team that is responsible for their care really takes that responsibility very seriously. One thing that I do not like when going to a hospital is being kept there for a long period of time, and I am sure that all patients stay the same. Therefore patients do not want to spend unnecessary time in any healthcare facility when they would rather just go home.
When I reviewed the patient survey some of the measures that stood out as important to consumers are:
-Care Transition – Patients who “Disagree” or “Strongly Disagree” they understood their care when they left the hospital
-Patients cared about whether their doctors communicated well
-Cleanliness of rooms
-Willingness to recommend the hospital
Measures that I felt were least important are:
– Use of medical imaging
– Payment and value of care
-General information
I do not think that patients used this website or any like it to evaluate and choose a hospital. Most patients are either the elderly or children and using the computer to locate a good hospital is not a priority of theirs. Both may not be efficient at computers to even do that. Usually a hospital is chosen either by word of mouth from friends or family or reviews given by any media outlet.
