Policy Advocacy
Complete Policy Advocacy Challenge 3.5 in Jansson p. 93. Read the information and thinking through the activities these students engaged in, and the skills they used to advocate and accomplish policy change, answer the following questions:
1. What ethical and analytic rationales did the students use to decide that the extent and nature of homelessness is wrong (Task 1)? In the complex American governmental system, how did they decide where to focus their interventions as they navigated pol-
icy and advocacy systems (Task 2)? Give specific examples of these.
2. In what agenda building, problem analyzing, proposal constructing, policy enacting, policy implementing, and policy assessing tasks did the students engage in their efforts to advocate and enact policies to address the problem of homelessness (Tasks 3
through 8)? Again, give specific examples connected to each task so that I can see you understand what each task might involve.
3. What analytical, political, interactional, and value-clarifying competencies did the students use in their efforts to enact policies to address the problem of homelessness? You might find Table 3.1 on page 80 helpful with this question.
