Assessment task 2: Practice change / research study proposal
Task description:
This item of assessment may be a proposal for practice change, or a protocol for a research project, to be carried out in your workplace setting and drawing on the content mastered in semester 1. It may be based on the literature review you have carried out for assignment 1. You should either:
(A) Identify a practice development/change and suitable approach appropriate for your area of practice that you would like to see piloted, and develop your idea into a proposal suitable for submission to your practice setting.
OR
(B) Identify an area of practice development/change that you would like to research further, and develop a research project protocol suitable for submission to the ethics committee overseeing research in your practice setting.
You will need to:
? Develop realistic aims and objectives, and identify any primary outcome (if relevant)
? Provide a background to the project, including a brief literature review, to contextualise the project, justify your proposal and identify the potential benefits to your workplace
? For the practice change proposal:
o Provide a flexible and simple model for the practice development change, including explanatory diagrams to assist clarity (optional)
o Describe a model and methods of evaluation
? For the research project protocol: o Explain the research design to be used
o Identify the setting and participants, including inclusion/exclusion criteria and sample size
o Describe the data collection methods, including instruments/tools to be used
o Explain the type of data analysis that will be undertaken
o Identify any ethical considerations
? Present benefits and potential difficulties, including possible solutions to any difficulties
? The potential costs of carrying out the project. Please note you do not have to actually submit your proposal to the clinical area or ethics committee. Further instructions and a template for each of these proposals are available
Assessment criteria:
1. The extent to which a clear proposal is outlined, with realistic aims and objectives / justification, and relevant design / evaluation methods.
2. The extent to which the literature and context are used to support the proposal.
3. The extent to which the proposal?s benefits and potential difficulties, solutions, and costs are logically and coherently explained.
4. The extent to which the proposal is presented in a persuasive academic style, with citations and referencing in accordance with the Harvard 2002 system. Standard descriptors for these criteria are included in the assessment rubric, located in the Assessment 2
