Select one article from a peer-reviewed nursing journal published within the last three years—or a germinal article which may contain an earlier publication date—and provide the citation in APA format.

Answer the following questions using your selected research article:
1. Is this qualitative or quantitative? What is the study design? What criteria did you use to determine the study design?
-This is a quantitative study -A comprehensive search was undertaken to identify all the randomized controlled trials that explored temperature of irrigation fluid -A meta-analysis approach was used. -The criteria I used to determine that this was meta-analysis was the fact statistical results interpreted included the examination of; the benefit or harm of an intervention; the effect size or strength of the intervention; magnitude or relationships among study variables; sensitivity and specificity of diagnostic tools; the risk of the outcome.
2. How did you confirm that the journal you selected was peer-reviewed or germinal?
Peer-reviewed because: -The article is substantial in length, 11 pages long -The article contains extensive research -There are 87 works cited -there is much statistical analysis throughout the article, 686 patients were identified for the study A peer-reviewed journal has a panel of internal and external reviewers who review submitted manuscripts for possible publication. The external reviewers are drawn from a pool of nurse scholars, and possibly scholars from other related disciplines, who are experts in various specialties. The reviewers use a set of scholarly criteria to judge whether a manuscript meets publication standards of the journal.
3. Does this research article generate support for evidence-based practice? If not, state why it does not. Please review the critical appraisal guideline on pg. 466-480.
In my opinion this article supports evidence –based practice. It shows through research and comparisons of other studies the importance of warmed irrigation compared to room temperature irrigations. It clearly states its objectives, and meets them throughout the article. This was a systematic review, there was a randomized selection of patients, and the conclusions supported the data shown. |
