Project Objectives:
To understand the requirements necessary to conduct a primary business research project.
To perform survey/guide design, data collection, data analysis and data reporting.
To prepare a detailed report of the research findings, conclusions and recommendations.
To present an appealing, innovative presentation that describes the research outcomes.
Project Guidelines:
You have identified a business research objective earlier in the course that related to your school work at Humber, topics reflected in a specific industry, marketing issues, or business in general. Your group then transformed the objective into a research problem/question and prepared a proposal that presented a plan for conducting a research project. Now, you will be responsible for preparing and conducting a research study that includes a written report and a presentation. You must substantiate your findings with primary data, and make relevant and detailed recommendations from your research.
The problem or question researched in this project will usually be the same one identified in the research proposal that was submitted and approved by the instructor in your previous group assignment, Group Research Proposal. If you choose to use a different research problem or question, you must contact the instructor and have it approved before you proceed with any data collection.
Instructions:
Before you conduct your research, make sure you have a thorough understanding of the fundamentals of research ethics as described in the textbook and discussed in class.

Once you develop your survey questions, interview script or focus group guide, you must have those items approved by the instructor before using them. An earlier assignment, Questionnaire/Interview Guide, will be the basis of this requirement. Approval of the final version of the questions to be asked of respondents is imperative to make sure you do not collect any private, personal or confidential data.
If you will be administering quantitative research questionnaires (online or paper), your sample size should be no fewer than 30 respondents. Using qualitative methods, such as interviews or focus groups) is likely to entail having smaller sample sizes.
While the majority of your report and presentation must be in your own words, you may occasionally wish to quote directly from a piece of research material:
o If quoting verbatim any resource in the body of your report, use quotation marks to surround the quoted text, and include the author’s name, title of the source, date and page number in the reference list. APA citation standards apply.
o If quoting from an interview, follow the above regarding the use of quotation marks and give the interviewee’s name, position and institution, and the date and time of the interview.
o Secondary research or previous research studies must be cited using the APA format.
Two elements comprise the project deliverables: a research report in both hardcopy and softcopy, and a presentation in both hardcopy and softcopy. The research report softcopy (electronic) version must be submitted through the Blackboard Assignments tab by midnight on Tuesday, 1 December. This allows the instructor time to gain some familiarity with the research reports content before your groups presentation. The hardcopy of the report is to be handed to the instructor during the class on Thursday, 3 December. The presentation softcopy (assuming an electronic file is created using PowerPoint or some other software package) is to be submitted through Blackboard by midnight on Wednesday, 2 December 2015 with the hardcopy handed to the instructor before the groups presentation on Thursday, 3 December.
