1.Summarise the film’s codes of meaning in a short introductory session – film’s technical skills (shot size, framing, angles, montage) as well as plot, character and setting.
2.Interpret the deeper meanings in the film – use critical tools discussed in class (semiotic analysis (signs, symbols and conventions), structural analysis (genre, viadimir prop), discourses, binary oppositions, commutation and critical cultural analysis. Or you can just use general critique skills.
3.Discuss the artistic value of the movie, identify and evaluate the aesthetic qualities of the film using the criteria discussed in class – innovation, unpredictability and complexity
4.Evaluate the film’s overall contribution to culture with statements supported by evidence. Show other references to the film in contemporary culture.
5.Conclude with an evaluation from your own opinion of the film based upon the two years of FTV learnings you have accumulated.
