Sailing
Vignette on sailing. Creative and very descriptive of a time sailing across the gulf stream in bad weather
Waves, swells, breakers, rollers, whatever you want to call them rough seas are terrifying. Especially when you’re in a fairly small sailboat crossing the gulfstream with conflicting winds and current. If you don’t know, conflicting winds and the the gulfstream are two things a sailor never wants to hear let alone experience. It fundamentally means exceedingly large and exceedingly steep swells. I had the tremendous pleasure of not only hearing about these circumstances but experiencing them hands on while crossing the gulfstream in 2014.
When I left Miami earlier in the day I had not anticipated the wind unexpectedly increasing in speed and changing direction.
