ANSWER Texas Legislature State legislatures are either described as part time or full time. Texas Legislature does not always fit well in any of the two categories. It only shares some characteristics that are found in part-time legislatures. One part time characteristic that Texas legislature adopts is that they tend to meet for a short period of time. Texas legislature meets for 140 days on odd-numbered years unless the governor, who is in charge of preceding the senate, calls a special session. Many people have expressed different sentiments about the part-time legislation. They have always insisted that another system used by this legislature should be put in place. They have argued that a full-time legislature should be adopted and give up the part-time. For instance, 140 days for 81 legislative sessions is considered stressful. More so, at times it may involve passing many bills that eventually become law. Texas legislation may produce many pieces of legislatures; hence this leaves most people speculating about the quality of so much legislation produced in a short period of time. It is also likely that the governor may not see the need of calling for other sessions, especially when the bill to be passed is not relevant to him. The system should see the need of adopt various ways of sharing power and responsibility within the senate. A new structural system should consider increasing legislators income. If the legislators are not paid enough, their dependency on other sources of income increases. This is one the reasons why they end up taking lobbying jobs. Lengthening their sessions and increasing the legislative income will help to work well hence reducing cases distortion. Since Texas economy is highly ranked, it should change this legislative system that was devised long ago before the state had developed and was relatively low populated.
